What actually happens in a business insurance review?

- Tell us what you've got. Send through your current policy schedule or certificate of currency, or just answer a few quick questions about the building or business if you don't have it handy.
- Your number gets checked. For a commercial building, that means commissioning a desktop building replacement valuation, at no cost to you, rather than relying on a guess or a figure that was set years ago (see desktop building replacement valuation). - Your wording gets checked. Not just the sum insured, the actual policy document: whose name it's in, what the indemnity period covers, and whether the sections you'd assume are automatic (loss of rent, landlord liability, flood) are actually included.
- You hear what we found, in plain English. If your current cover is already doing its job, that's exactly what we say (see below). If there's a gap, we explain what it is and why it matters at claim time, not just at renewal time.
- If something needs fixing, you get real options, not a single number. And you're never asked to decide on the spot. What a review keeps turning up

A sum insured nobody has tested. Around 1 in 10 small-to-medium businesses think they're underinsured, but when the number is actually measured, the average gap is closer to 24%, rising to 31% for industrial property (ICA/Woolcott 2015; Vero SME Insurance Index 2025; MCG Quantity Surveyors). The wrong legal entity on the policy. A building held in a trust or a company gets insured in a director's personal name, or a tenant pays the premium and the policy ends up in their name instead of the owner's. Full explanation: whose name should the policy be in?.

Then that's what we tell you. A review isn't a sales process in disguise, it's a genuine check, and a genuine check sometimes comes back clean. We don't get paid to find a problem that isn't there, and moving your policy for the sake of moving it isn't a service, it's churn.
