We were never trained to be ordinary brokers. It shows.
CIB didn't start as a brokerage. We started in country Queensland, insuring farmers and miners in Emerald, learning the job the hard way: face to face, in towns where your word is the only marketing you get. In 2009 we were forced to choose between folding into someone else's way of doing things or standing on our own. We chose our own licence. Out of 96 agencies in the same position, only five of us did.
Nobody ever taught us how a brokerage is supposed to run. So we never learned the bad habits. We don't hand you to a junior while the experienced people hide upstairs. We don't send renewal letters with a bigger number and no phone call. And we don't win clients on price, because a client won on price is lost on price. We built this business on one thing: being the people who actually explain it.
Where we are today
Consolidated Insurance Brokers has run on its own licence since 2010, and the two directors who started it still run it: William Paull and Jeff Forbes, each a Co-Founder & Account Director. William has been in commercial insurance since 2002 and Jeff since 2010. William started in country Queensland, where you learn to explain a policy across a kitchen table or you do not last.
Today we work from two offices, New Farm in Brisbane and Bundaberg, looking after commercial building owners, landlords, business owners and families across Queensland and beyond. Every commercial building client gets a registered valuer's desktop assessment commissioned at no cost to them, and we run more than 1,200 roof condition checks a year, because in our experience the two things most likely to wreck a claim are a wrong sum insured and a roof nobody looked at.
Your renewal gets shopped, checked, and explained. Every year.
The renewal that should worry you is the quiet one: a letter, a bigger number, no phone call, no evidence anyone lifted a finger. That's how most of the industry does it, and it's why people shop around. Ours works differently. Before your renewal reaches you, we've been back to the market on your behalf and checked your cover still fits. Then we call you and take you through it, including the increases, and exactly why. You might not love every number. You'll never wonder whether anyone did the work.
How we're paid, in plain sight
Brokers are typically paid a commission by the insurer, built into the premium, and many charge a broker fee for the professional service, in addition to that commission or in place of it. Plenty of brokerages keep the detail vague. We disclose our commission and our broker fee, in dollars, on every invoice, to every client, retail or wholesale, and we have since we opened in 2010. As far as we know, that still makes us one of the few brokerages in Australia that does. We would rather you knew exactly how we are paid than wondered.
Recognition
- Excellence Awardee - Large Brokerage of the Year, Insurance Business Australia Awards 2026: one of the top three large brokerages of the year. That assessment came from outside this business, so you are not relying on our own account of how we work.
- Named in Insurance Business Australia's Top Brokerages list, 2022 and 2023. Two separate years, so what you are looking at is not a single good year.
- Members of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA), the Council of Queensland Insurance Brokers (CQIB) and the Steadfast Group. The standards those memberships carry are set outside this business, so they are not ours to relax when it suits us.
Talk to the people who actually explain it
One conversation and you will understand your cover better than you ever have. No jargon, no sales pitch, and a straight answer even when the straight answer is that your current cover is fine.
