Benjamin Roberts is a Broker Assistant at Consolidated Insurance Brokers in New Farm, Brisbane. He is building a commercial broking career with a developing focus on music, entertainment, media and creative businesses, after four years in direct insurance across domestic products, small business liability and team leadership.
He joined Consolidated Insurance Brokers in 2026 because he wanted to move deeper into advice-led broking: understanding a client's circumstances, learning how commercial policies differ from one another, working with a broader range of insurers, and building the technical knowledge it takes to help a business owner protect what they have built.
Benjamin also brings a perspective that is unusual in insurance. Alongside his insurance career he has built a professional career in music as a producer, songwriter, DJ and creative business owner, which has given him first-hand exposure to what running a creative business is actually like: building a reputation, managing commercial relationships, dealing with uncertainty, and protecting the work that pays for a livelihood.
His areas of experience include domestic motor and home insurance, small business liability insurance, renewals and new-business quotations, and policy remarketing. He also brings first-hand knowledge of music production and the creative industries, and is building an insurance focus on music, entertainment, media and cyber risks.
From Direct Insurance to Commercial Broking
Benjamin began working in insurance in 2022, with a previous insurer. He worked across domestic motor, home and leisure products and small business liability, and moved into leadership and fill-in management responsibilities.
That work gave him a foundation in customer conversations, insurance sales, team leadership and how people actually think about risk and price. Joining Consolidated Insurance Brokers is the next stage of it: learning commercial broking in greater depth, working through renewals and new-business quotations, remarketing policies, and shadowing experienced Account Managers across policy, claims and placement work.
Benjamin's objective is to become the kind of broker who can explain insurance clearly, ask better questions and help clients make informed decisions, rather than treating insurance as a one-size-fits-all product purchase.
Entertainment, Music and Creative Businesses
Music and entertainment are a natural area of focus for Benjamin, because he understands that industry from the inside as well as from an insurance perspective.
His music career covers production, commercial releases, artist development, mentoring and live performance at festivals and other events, and it has put him alongside artists, producers, promoters, venues and event operators. His music work includes involvement in a recording that achieved RIAA Gold certification in the United States.
He has also managed the assets a modern creative business depends on: studio and DJ equipment, computers, software, project files, unreleased recordings, digital accounts and intellectual property. That is why he understands how equipment, data, reputation, contracts, relationships and the ability to keep working all connect for a creative business.
He also knows that many people go into those industries because they love the work, not because they want to spend their time on administration or insurance.
As he develops further in commercial broking, that combination of first-hand industry experience and insurance training gives him a foundation for working with musicians, producers, entertainment businesses and other creative business owners.
Building an Insurance Focus on Music, Entertainment and Media
Benjamin is early in his commercial broking career and is deliberately building technical knowledge around music and entertainment risks, cyber and digital dependency, and media.
At Consolidated Insurance Brokers he supports renewals, new-business quotations and policy remarketing while he learns from experienced brokers and underwriters. His strength today is the combination of genuine industry knowledge and growing insurance expertise, rather than a longer broking track record than he actually has.
Benjamin's Approach
Benjamin is particularly interested in working with business owners who care deeply about what they have built. His own experience of running a business means he understands the personal effort, the uncertainty and the ambition that can sit behind one.
He believes an insurance conversation should go beyond price. A client should understand what they are buying, what the policy is designed to cover, what information the insurer needs to be told, and where an assumption could create a problem later.
The cheapest option is not automatically the best value. The question that matters is whether the insurance matches the risk the client is actually trying to protect.
His Role at Consolidated Insurance Brokers
As a Broker Assistant, Benjamin supports renewals, new-business quotations and policy remarketing while he continues to build his commercial insurance knowledge.
He works alongside experienced Account Managers to learn how different commercial risks are assessed, how cover is structured, how insurers approach those risks, and how claims experience should shape the way a policy is arranged.
