We have been with Consolidated Insurance Brokers for a few years now and they are simply the best. This year Dylan helped us obtain the best deals in commercial property insurance. Despite high inflation in almost everything, Dylan was able to find a better deal than the previous year! Would highly recommend them over all the other brokers.

Based at our Brisbane office.
Dylan Buckley is an Account Executive at Consolidated Insurance Brokers in New Farm, Brisbane, working primarily with commercial property owners, transport operators and businesses with more complex insurance requirements.
His first exposure to insurance was at Consolidated Insurance Brokers in 2013, in an administration role. He left to study biomedical science and to work in academic research, and returned to the business in 2023.
On his return he spent his time researching policy wordings and building product knowledge for the broking team. He has since moved into managing his own portfolio, and still works the same way.
Dylan is drawn to the parts of insurance that reward careful analysis: how policy wording changes between insurers, whether the correct legal entity is insured, how exclusions operate, and whether the policy still matches the way a business actually trades.
His areas of experience include commercial property and building insurance, transport and contracted freight risks, business insurance and liability, policy wording and insurer comparisons, and underinsurance and average clauses.
A Research Background, Applied to Policy Wording
Dylan spent the years between his two stints at Consolidated Insurance Brokers studying biomedical science and working in academic research, and that is the habit he brought back with him in 2023.
His first work on returning was reading policy wordings and building product knowledge for the broking team: comparing how one insurer words a clause against how another words the same thing, and working out what the difference does.
He now manages his own portfolio and still approaches it that way. The wording is where a policy either matches the business or quietly stops matching it, and reading it properly is not a five-minute job at renewal.
What Dylan Looks For
The first thing is whether the sum insured on a commercial property is realistic. Where it is not, an average or underinsurance clause can reduce a payout on a partial loss and leave an owner short on a total loss.
The second is whose name is on the policy. Businesses restructure, move into a trust, change ownership or add an entity, and the policy is not always updated to match. A policy left in the wrong entity name is a problem that tends to surface at claim time.
Third is how the business gets its work done. Staff, contractors and labour-hire arrangements each create different liability exposures, and moving between them changes what the policy needs to respond to.
Fourth, for transport clients, is the gap between contract and cover. A principal will often specify the insurance an operator must hold, and what the policy actually covers is not always the same thing.
Running underneath all of it are the exclusions and endorsements that can remove more cover than a client realises, and the disclosure that has to be right for any of it to respond.
Commercial Property and Transport
Most of the portfolio Dylan manages sits in commercial property and transport, and the two ask different questions of a broker.
On the property side the work is about the building itself: the sum insured, how the policy responds to damage, and the exposures that come with owning commercial premises.
On the transport side it is about how the business trades: what it carries, who it carries it for, what its contracts commit it to, and the equipment and breakdown exposures that come with running vehicles and plant.
