Based at our Bundaberg office.
Rebecca Higgs is an Account Executive at Consolidated Insurance Brokers in Bundaberg, working with commercial property owners and commercial motor clients.
She was first introduced to insurance in the United Kingdom, in customer support at Cunningham Lindsey, a loss-assessing firm. After returning to Australia in 2008 she moved into broker claims at a previous insurer, and spent around two and a half years watching what happens to a policy when it is actually tested.
In 2011 Rebecca moved into broking, progressing from Broker Assistant to Internal Broker and then into Account Manager and Account Executive roles, before joining Consolidated Insurance Brokers in 2025.
That order matters to how she works. Having seen claims first, she treats a renewal as the moment to check that the information is still accurate, the sums insured still make sense and the cover still fits the risk, rather than as an annual formality.
Commercial Property Is Where the Details Decide It
Commercial property owners are Rebecca’s main focus, and she pays close attention to the inputs: the building sum insured, how the building is constructed, the year it was built, who occupies it and which additional covers are genuinely relevant.
Underinsurance is the issue she raises most. Reducing a sum insured does reduce the premium, and that saving has to be weighed against what happens if the building is not insured for enough when something significant occurs.
She is also clear that a tenant can change the risk. Different business activities can change how an insurer sees a building, what it charges and what cover or conditions it will offer. That is why accurate occupancy information matters at renewal and whenever a tenancy changes.
What Claims Experience Taught Her
Rebecca began her Australian insurance career in broker claims, which gave her an early view of the moment a policy stops being a document and becomes something a client is relying on.
It is the reason she concentrates on the fundamentals before a loss rather than after one: accurate information, an appropriate sum insured, current construction and occupancy details, and cover that reflects what the client actually does.
Her aim is to have the awkward conversation at renewal, so a client does not discover an avoidable problem at claim time.
